About Me

Living in the Caribbean is probably like living anywhere else, with the same ups and downs. But it does have its own vibe and flavour and gives me a unique perspective on most things. I'm often sarcastic, mostly funny, always looking for a new adventure. I have not boxed myself into any one category of life. I love a lot of things and dislike a lot more. I write about them all.

World Cup 2014 - The Man Candy Edition

With the World Cup mere days away now, I just had to do THE post - the man candy post. Now while I personally live for the Cup and get rabid when games are on - screaming at the tv, cursing out players who cannot hear me and missing out on sleep or a social life - there are those who don't care at all. There are women who don't give two cents about the World Cup and that's alright. But still, while you may not care about the game, there are 32 teams competing to be the best team in the world, which means the man candy potential is high. If you don't watch for any other reason, you can watch to spot some football hotties.

Cesc Fabregas - Spain. He has that smouldering look down.

Gonzalo Higuain - Argentina. Messi may be the star, but we also need the looks.

Adam Kwarasey - Ghana. Mocha goodness.

Olivier Giroud - France. He is on many a hottie list, so had to do him twice. Les Bleus can be proud.

Guy N'dy Assembe - Cameroon. Look for him in goal for the Lions. Yes, Lord.

Gerard Pique - Spain. Also known as Mr Shakira. He looks better with his mouth closed, that's for sure. I am supporting the ladies who think he is the hotness.

Cristiano Ronaldo - Portugal. He is not one of my faves but I was told my list would be incomplete without him.

Jerome Boateng - Germany. His brother, Kevin Prince Boateng, who plays for Ghana, was on the list last World Cup but I just find he looks a bit nashy of late. Jerome is still keeping it hot though. Love him in the Nike ad - that's hawt!

Glen Johnson - England. God save the Queen? More like God save Glen Johnson!

Fabian Johnson - USA. The last team I would be supporting but the cutie is representing.

Neymar - Brazil. He is as fat as a matchstick, and very young, making any lusting bordering on paedophilia but I love his swag more than anything else. He has a "King of Cool" energy I find hot.

Alem - Trinidad and Tobago and friend. And for the local ladies looking for a football hottie, while he may not be Brazil-bound, he will be found in sports bars across the country taking in the Cup, and I think he deserves a hottie mention. For the RWB!

The Azzurri. - I tried my best to find one hottie worth the list from the Italian national team, as they have been known to bring the sexy to the World Cup but did not really drop my knickers for any of them. Collectively though, they are my everything!! Dolce and Gabbana has outfitted the players as well - don't they look good? Forza Italia!

Hoppilicious Saturday!!

I love sleep!
Disclaimer: The views expressed in this blog entry are mine and are not meant to be offensive. I just like a good laugh on a Saturday morning. If you are, or know anyone to whom this post may directly refer, please don't hate me. Well, you can, but I won't really care.

The past couple days I have been totally busted. I had not slept for 2 days straight and was focused on my dissertation, trying to make a serious dent in it so I could enjoy my weekend without regret. When my head touched down on the pillow this morning, it was like God himself had tucked me in.

So I passed through my friend's house-warming party last night (on no sleep...talk about fun times!) and let me just say, she should have a house-warming party every week, not because it was a slammin' party but because they cleaned the house for the event. Or maybe I should say, she had to clean the house for the event. You remember....THE HOUSE.

Though I did not stay long, one highlight of the evening was this dude I met. Now, don't get excited - it's nothing like that. But while having casual conversation with this dude, I asked him what he did for a living. The answer he gave me prompted to ask whether he was kidding me about 20 times within the next 60 minutes, cause I could not believe what this dude was telling me.

He plays hopscotch for a living.

I kid you not. The dude plays HOPSCOTCH for a living. In case you need a reminder or a lesson in what hopscotch is - click here.

Hopscotch - traditionally a girl's game

It is an actual sport, and there are actual tournaments. I had to ask him to break it down for me. His day. I mean, in a previous life, I would wake up, get showered and dressed in work clothes, sit in an office or go to meetings, aka work, from 8-4. This dude does the waking up and showering part, but goes to train for hopscotch and participates in hopscotch tournaments. How does one train to play a game that kids play in the street? I have not played hopscotch in eons but from what I remember, it was not that hard. I asked him if he was a hopscotch champion and he said he wasn't...but he is training to get there. I kept a straight face, I swear. It's good to have a goal!!! But I mean, if you're going to chat up girls, at least be a frickin' hopscotch champion or world record holder or something. (snicker)

I thought after this post, that I had heard and seen it all but this one really won me over. I wonder how many girls he wins over with that one? Not that I am that shallow...okay, I am...but having a boyfriend that hops in and out of chalk boxes for a living really creeps me out. lol. But just to be fair,  and I am being really genuine and honest now, because I know you are probably saying horrible things about me (she's mean, she's shallow...what a turd!) the guy was really super nice and had a warm personality, and was good fun. And seriously, the guy is doing what he wants. He is not slaving over a hot computer at some job he hates, is he? So there is something to it, I guess. So I guess I can recommend hopscotch players as prospective dates? Not for me, of course.

Oh, the things I share with you readers. I am sure you sometimes think I make this stuff up!

Dating a Sports Star

During one of my assignment breaks this afternoon, I sat down to catch up on the Commonwealth Games, now taking place in New Delhi, India. So far, my countrymen have snagged 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. Very proud of my little island. Then during one of the commercial breaks I switched channels and there was something I had never seen in all my life and I pictured dating a guy and bringing him home to meet my sports-loving father and the conversation with my dad going something like this:

Me: Hey dad. This is my new boyfriend.
Daddy: So what do you do?
Boyfriend: Into sports, sir.
Daddy: Oh really? I love sports. Used to play cricket, and I love football, track and shit like boxing too. So you play football?
Boyfriend: No.
Daddy: Oh, you run track? What are you? Sprinter or long distance runner? Or maybe you're into field events? Long jump?
Boyfriend: No. None of those.
Daddy: Cricket?
Boyfriend: No sir.
Daddy: So what the ass do you do?
Boyfriend: I am a trampolinist.
Daddy: A what?
Boyfriend: I am a national trampoline champion.
Daddy: Chile, get this man outta mih house and doh bring him back until he plays a REAL sport.

There it was. The UK National Trampoline Finals on my tv. I was laughing so hard I thought I would pee myself. I mean, I was certain there would be no black men in this ting. It has to be the most stupid thing I had ever heard of. Grown men and women jumping up and down on a trampoline for sport. Okay, so they were doing turns and twists and stuff, but really? A whole sport?

In other news, I found it a wee bit hilarious that as I got on the train heading to Waterloo a little after 7 this this morning, after a housewarming party last night, I still managed to pull a textbook out of my bag and read all the way in to London, despite a night of drinks, friends and dancing. There is something wrong with that image, isn't there?

What's more wrong than that image? Sitting here on a Saturday night with 6 books and countless journal articles open on my task bar, instead of being out in the West End drinking something fruity and rummy. I did manage to leave the house briefly to head down to my local Sainsbury's and get a dinner for 2 deal of paella, some veggies in white wine with shallot butter, a bottle of pinot grigio and dessert for just £10. Because yet again, I had to cancel all weekend activity, which included a wedding out of the city, and a dinner date, for school work, so had to bring the weekend to me. It was the best meal I had all week. For in-house food, it's pretty awesome stuff. What would I ever do without pre-packaged meal deals?

And it's going to be a long night of reading, assimilating, writing and theorising, so watch this space.
